Safe Place Through the Children’s Cabinet

The mission is to provide Washoe County children/youth with a safety net to deal with a dangerous or threatening situation you are not prepared to deal with on your own.  We assess your immediate need to determine what services we can provide such as free individual or family counseling, rental/housing assistance, utility assistance, access to our food pantry, and provide support in looking into other resources you may need.

Local Behavioral Health Crisis Clinics

These clinics offer quick evaluations and short-term care, serving as an alternative to regular emergency rooms for mental health crises. If needed, these clinics can place patients on a psychiatric hold for up to 72 hours. This means they can keep a person at the clinic, even against their will, if they believe the person might harm themselves or others due to their mental state.

Warm and Crisis Lines That May Contact Emergency Services

Although the likelihood is low (988 states they only engage in ‘active rescue’ in 2% of calls), the below crisis lines may contact law enforcement and other emergency services in the following circumstances:

  1. If the caller is in immediate danger of harming themself or others and cannot ensure their own safety
  2. When the caller has already harmed themself  and needs immediate medical attention
  3. If the caller is actively engaged in a suicide attempt
  4. In cases where there is an imminent threat to others’ safety

This virtual support group is a safe space to process and safely share struggles with feelings and thoughts of suicide. This group is peer-run and free to all without any referral or payment needed.

THRIVE Lifeline

Moderates a discord server for Trans, Nonbinary, Agender, and Questioning people (13+) and co-hosts the Stronger Together discord server for multiply marginalized complex trauma survivors (open to all 18+).

Fireweed Collective offers an online haven that respects self-determination, informed choice, and the exploration and acceptance of different ways being in the world. We understand that a lot of emotional distress is the result of legacies of abuse and experiences of oppression. We foster communities that sit at the intersection of mental health and social justice.
